Carbon Offsets

No responsible person can travel these days without considering the impact on the local and global environments.  What is the impact on the local economy? What is the environmental impact?  How can we justify the carbon costs of air travel? The conscious traveler is mindful of the tradeoffs of modern travel.
Eco-Arts is committed to eco-travel that is conscious of and supports sustainable practices.  We believe that responsible eco-travel helps preserve habitat and biodiversity by providing alternate sources of income to people in areas who might otherwise choose to deforest or develop ecologically important habitat for economic reasons.
We book our travel, lodging and activities through local companies rather than through companies based out-of-country in order that we might support the local economy.  In whatever ways possible, we limit the use of non-recyclable materials on our trips.
We know that air travel results in emissions that contribute to global warming.  We take part in a carbon offset program and encourage our participants to do likewise.

Here are two programs that are legitimate and will give you more information about their efforts:

Carbonfund.org supports three types of carbon offset projects: renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation.

The projects they support:
Brubaker Family Dairy Farm Methane Project
Wanner Family Dairy Farm Methane Project
Hillcrest Saylor Family Dairy Farm Methane Project
Farmer-Owned Distributed Wind
